Pakistan shut down SA
Second ODI, Lahore: Pakistan 267-7 (50 overs) beat South Africa 225-9 (50 overs) by 42 runs.

Pakistan took a 2-0 lead in the five match series with a 42-run victory in the second one-day international against South Africa in Lahore.

Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Hafeez took three wickets apiece to restrict the visitors to 225-9.

Yousuf Youhana had earlier scored a fluent 65 to set up Pakistan's winning total of 267-7.

South Africa's cause was not helped by three run-outs and a middle order batting collapse.

Seamers Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini did well to restrict Pakistan early on after South Africa skipper Graeme Smith won the toss and put the home side into bat.

And the home side's troubles worsened when captain Inzamam-ul Haq was forced to retire with a hamstring problem.

But Youhana held the innings together with contributions from most of Pakistan's batsmen, particularly Shoaib Malik, who scored a breezy 45.

Ntini nipped out Shoaib, who was starting to open his shoulders, and Abdul Razzaq in the closing overs to claim 4-46.

But Inzamam returned to the field with a runner to take 15 off the final over and end up undefeated on 33.

South Africa stumbled mid-way through their reply, losing three wickets for just 13 runs after Boeta Dippenaar and Jacques Kallis had shared in a second wicket stand of 89 to take the score onto 108-1.

Off-spinner Hafeez started the slide by trapping Kallis lbw for 42 and Neil McKenzie and Mark Boucher were run out in quick succession by Sami, who had taken the early wicket of Smith.

Dippenaar top-scored for South Africa with 58 before becoming one of Hafeez's victims.

Wickets then fell in quick succession, and an unbeaten 48-run partnership between Ntini and Alan Dawson at the end was not enough.
