Pakistan appoint Inzamam
Inzamam-ul Haq
Inzamam keeps the captaincy after standing in for Latif
Inzamam-ul Haq has been appointed Pakistan captain following Rashid Latif's resignation on Wednesday.

And spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been recalled for the one-day series against South Africa.

Latif, who was suspended during the recent one-day series against Bangladesh for unfair play, regains his place as wicket-keeper only.

"I am delighted that the establishment has put faith in my abilities," said Inzamam.

"I will put in my best and will try to carry on the good work done by Rashid Latif."

Inzamam had been acting as skipper during Latif's enforced absence, enjoying a 5-0 success in the one-day international series against Bangladesh.

He will captain the side for home series against South Africa and New Zealand, including 10 one-day internationals and two Tests.

South Africa's rescheduled tour sees two extra one-day matches replace the abandoned Karachi Test.

Chief selector Aamer Sohail said Rashid's presence in the team would help Inzamam.

"It is sad that Rashid decided to resign but I think he still has a lot more to give to the team," Sohail added.

Leg-spinner Mushtaq returns to the one-day side for the first time in three years, after an impressive season of English county cricket brought 103 first-class wickets for Sussex.

And off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq is also recalled for the first time since Pakistan's post-World Cup clear-out in March.

Pakistan squad: Inzamam-ul Haq (captain), Mohammad Hafeez, Yasir Hameed, Yousuf Youhana, Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Rashid Latif, Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Shabbir Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Faisal Iqbal, Salman Butt.
