MacGill challenges Warne
Shane Warne could face a fight to regain his place after Stuart MacGill led Australia to a crushing second Test victory over Bangladesh.

Stuart MacGill:

Debut v South Africa, 1997/98
Tests: 24
121 wkts, ave 27.28, best 7-50
The hosts won the second Test in Cairns by an innings and 98 runs after coasting to victory in the Darwin Test eight days earlier by an innings and 132 runs.

And MacGill claimed 5-56 in Bangladesh's second innings, completing a haul of 10 wickets for the match and 17 for the two-match series, gaining awards for man of the match and of the series.

Meanwhile fellow leg-spinner Warne is in the middle of a 12-month ban for taking a banned substance.

"Who knows what's going to happen in the future? Shane's still got a bit of time on the sidelines," Australia captain Steve Waugh said.

"We all know how great a bowler Shane is, but things may change. If you keep taking five or six wickets a Test, you've got to have a good case for inclusion."

MacGill is one of just 10 bowlers with more than 100 wickets - including Dennis Lillee, Richard Hadlee and Muttiah Muralitharan - to have averaged five per Test.

"It's about time everybody realised he's not in Shane's shadow, but that he's a quality bowler in his own right," Waugh added.

When Shane comes back it will be as it's always been

There are six more scheduled Tests - two against Zimbabwe and four against India - before Warne's ban ends in February.

MacGill, a year younger than Warne at 32, said he had relished the opportunity to be part of the Australian side for a full year rather than being called up occasionally when Warne was injured.

"This is a good 12 months' cricket that I've been given an opportunity to participate in and I'm going to cash in.

"But when Shane comes back it will be as it's always been. I think he's going to be in great shape when he gets back and I expect him to play almost immediately.

"I just have to make sure I don't have any regrets for the period of time I get a clear run."
