Bangladesh on back foot
Tour match, Darwin, day two: NT Chief Minister's XI 189 & 32-3; Bangladesh 139

Three wickets in the final session kept Bangladesh in the game after they were let down by their batting at the Marrara Oval.

Both openers were dismissed for nought and Manjurul Islam claimed the vital wicket of Michael Clarke, who was bowled for one, as the home side ended the day with a lead of 82.

A first innings lead was Bangladesh's target at the start of play but they were soon in trouble as Javed Omar, Habibul Bashar and Mohammad Ashraful all failed.

Opener Hannan Sarkar survived for over two hours to make 34, including seven boundaries, before he was bowled by Ian Redpath.

Alok Kapali's 21 was the second highest score and it was left to the tail-enders to see the total into three figures.

Mashrafe bin Mortaza reached 20 before he was caught behind off opening bowler Brad Hatton, who had figures of 2-20 from 12 overs.

The innings came to an end when Tapash Baisya was lbw to Nick Berry for 11, leaving Mohammad Rafique on 10 not out.

But the Chief Minister's XI found batting no easier as Redpath was bowled by Mortaza in the second over of their reply and Berry followed in similar fashion, with left-armer Manjurul on target.

Clarke followed to reduce them to 5-3 but Ashley Williams (13) and Kenneth Vowles (16) prevented further damage before the close.
