Jadeja played 196 one-day internationals for India |
Ajay Jadeja's on-off return to competitive cricket is back on after an appeal court over-ruled his ban from the domestic game. The former one-day skipper has served three-years of a five-year match-fixing ban handed down by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
His appeal against the ban earlier this year was upheld on the basis that the board had never brought specific charges against him.
But his return to club cricket in January lasted just seven overs before BCCI officials intervened to have him thrown out.
The board believed Jadeja, 32, would be unable to play while the January ruling was challenged, a belief that was upheld by a judge earlier this week.
But a counter-appeal by the cricketer went in his favour.
The next episode in the saga must be heard by 21 July - the deadline for the BCCI to back up its challenge.
Jadeja, a right-handed middle-order batsman and occasional medium-pace bowler, played 15 Tests for India.
But he was regarded as a one-day specialist, featuring for his country on 196 occasions in the shorter game.
Jadeja was among four players banned in 2000 by the BCCI after they were accused of involvement with illegal bookmakers.

The global match-fixing scandal erupted after former South African skipper Hansie Cronje confessed he had received money from an Indian bookmaker in exchange for providing information on matches.
India's former captain, Mohammed Azharuddin, and batsman Ajay Sharma were banned for life, while Jadeja and Manoj Prabhakar were suspended for five years.
A probe by India's federal Central Bureau of Investigation said the cricketers had worked with bookmakers to fix matches. But they were not charged with a crime.
