Former Indian batsman Ajay Jadeja has had his five-year ban from the game overturned by the High Court in Delhi.

Jadeja, who will be 32 next weekend, played 15 Tests and 196 one-day internationals.

He was one of four players banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in December 2000 following an internal inquiry into corruption in the game.

Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Sharma received life bans, and Manoj Prabhakar was also given a five-year ban.

Commenting on the decision to lift Jadeja's ban, Board president Jagmohan Dalmiya told the BBC: "I have faith in the due process of law, therefore, if the court has come up with a judgment, we will honour it."

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC), says it will wait to see the legal ramifications before giving any reaction.

Jadeja is now free to try and re-launch his career. He always maintained he did nothing wrong and only came into contact with bookmakers because they attended the same health club.

"I will explore all avenues to restore my credibility. I will knock at the doors of the BCCI and, if need be, go further," he said at the time the ban was imposed.

"I have been prevented from doing what I loved most - playing for India."

Jadeja captained India in 13 one-day games, winning eight and losing five.

Following his ban, he tried his luck at acting and last year played two games for the Hollywood Cricket Club, which was founded by British actors in the 1930s.

Azharuddin, meanwhile, is also awaiting the outcome of an appeal against his ban.
