Second Test, Hamilton, day two: India 92-8 (at close) v New Zealand

Daryl Tuffey and Shane Bond tore through India's highly-rated top order as the tourists made a disastrous start at Westpac Park.

Play finally got under way in the final session of the day and the new ball pair found plenty of movement on a green wicket.

Passing their lowest total against New Zealand, 81 at Wellington in 1976, was no consolation for India, who are looking to square the series after losing the first Test by 10 wickets.

After lengthy mopping up operations, which included the use of a helicopter, the two captains finally agreed to play 38 overs following an early tea,

Tuffey made immediate in-roads by removing opener Sanjay Bangar for one with only his third delivery.

He then dismissed Sachin Tendulkar (9), skipper Sourav Ganguly (5) and Rahul Dravid (9) as India slumped to 40 for five.

Tuffey finished with figures of four for 12 from a nine-over spell that began with six successive maidens, while Bond took three for 33.

Bond dismissed Virender Sehwag for one and later ended a stubborn 50-minute stand between VVS Laxman (23) and Parthiv Patel, when he forced Laxman to play on after the pair had added 30 runs.

Harbhajan Singh (20) briefly entertained the small crowd by clubbing five fours off Bond in a nine-ball cameo.

But Zaheer Khan was bowled for a duck by Jacob Oram off the last ball of the day.

New Zealand: Stephen Fleming (captain), Mark Richardson, Lou Vincent, Craig McMillan, Nathan Astle, Scott Styris, Jacob Oram, Robbie Hart, Daniel Vettori, Daryl Tuffey, Shane Bond.

India: Sourav Ganguly (captain), Virender Sehwag, Sanjay Bangar, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Parthiv Patel, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Tinu Yohannan, Ashish Nehra.
