The series, also involving Australia, is set to take place in Kenya from 27 August to 7 September after the Pakistan Cricket Board opted to look for a neutral venue because of safety concerns. But New Zealand Cricket has sent a letter confirming that their team will not be travelling to Nairobi. PCB spokesman Chishty Mujahid told reporters that they may now invite Kenya to play in the competition in order to drum up local interest. "Australia have given us a favourable response and will play in the triangular series. We are now considering two options after New Zealand's unavailability. "The first option is to ask Australia to play a series of six to seven one-day internationals. The second is to include Kenya in place of New Zealand in the triangular series," said Mujahid. Kenya has staged one-day international cricket for the past six years, including the 2000 ICC Knockout tournament, which was won by New Zealand. The switch is, however, bad news for the PCB, who have suffered losses estimated at $25m following the cancellation of a number of tours. New Zealand cut short a visit to Pakistan in May after a bomb went off close to the team hotel, killing 14 people. But NZC chief executive Martin Snedden later acknowledged that the Pakistan government and the PCB had done "everything reasonably possible" to guarantee the safety of the team. "NZC now owes us a Test and now this tri-series, so we will discuss the matter through correspondence," said Mujahid. | See also: 09 Jul 02 | Cricket 04 Jul 02 | Cricket 02 Jul 02 | Cricket 24 Jun 02 | Cricket Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Cricket stories now: Links to more Cricket stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
