Bangladesh bids for series
Pakistan skipper Waqar Younis awaits progress

Bangladesh is bidding to host the three-Test series between Pakistan and Australia in October this year, BBC Sport Online can reveal.

The series is unlikely to be staged in Pakistan due to the Australians' security fears.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is anxiously awaiting the final decision of Pakistani and Australian authorities on the matter.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has contacted us about hosting the series in Bangladesh and we have shown our enthusiasm on the prospect," said BCB chief Ali Asghar.

Asghar has held initial negotiations with PCB director Munawwar Rana on the issue.

The two spoke on the sidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC) executive board meeting, held in London in June.

Pakistan say they still hope to play the Aussies at home if the situation within their own country improves significantly within the coming few weeks.

But they have rejected staging the series in Australia.

Asghar hopes the timing would be ideal and the series would boost the game in the country.

"October is very pleasant and a perfect dry time for cricket in Bangladesh," he said.

Top teams

"Our people would love to see these two top teams in action in their country."

Asghar has been elected the new president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

He said the ACC's priority was to restore cricketing ties between India and Pakistan as it was vital for the overall development of the game in the region.

Asghar added that Bangladesh would host a triangular one-day series with India and South Africa as the other two teams soon after the next year's World Cup.
