Styris fills vacancy
Styris dismisses Ramnaresh Sarwan
Styris has been in excellent form with bat and ball
New Zealand have added all-rounder Scott Styris to their squad for the two Test matches on their current tour to the West Indies.

When the squad was originally announced, the selectors left one place vacant and Styris has secured it with his match-winning display in the fourth one-day international in Trinidad.

He scored an unbeaten 62 and then took six for 25 as the Kiwis won by nine runs to give themselves a chance of squaring the series in the final game in St Vincent on Saturday.

"There has been some healthy competition for the final Test place and I guess you could say Scott has emerged from the pack to take the vacant all-rounder position," said chairman of selectors Sir Richard Hadlee.

New Zealand are without two all-rounders on tour, with Chris Cairns sidelined by knee problems and Andre Adams suffering from a stress fracture in his back.

Australian-born Styris has made 44 one-day appearances, but has yet to play in Test cricket.

The 26-year-old does, however, have a good recent record in first-class cricket for Northern Districts, having averaged 44 with the bat during the 2001-02 State Championship and made a career best score of 212 not out, as well as taking 28 wickets at a cost of 17.03 each.

The opening Test begins in Barbados on 21 June, with the final game of their tour in Grenada a week later:

New Zealand Test squad: S Fleming (capt), N Astle, S Bond, I Butler, C Harris, R Hart, M Horne, C McMillan, C Martin, M Richardson, S Styris, D Tuffey, D Vettori, L Vincent.
