Birmingham's Pam Cookey celebrated her 50th international appearance for England by helping her side defeat South Africa 54-36 in a pool game.

The 26-year old Team Bath player made her debut in 2004, taking Commonwealth bronze in Melbourne two years later.

"It's a real honour, and it's been a great start as a squad, I'm really pleased with how the girls have come along," Cookey told BBC WM.

England had already opened up with an 81-20 victory over Barbados.

But they face far stiffer opposition in their next group game when they take on gold medal favourites New Zealand.

"It's going to be a really tough one, definitely it's going to put us on the line," Cookey added.

"We want to peak for the final, but also we want to put up a good performance when we play them now."
