The main body of the team will travel as was originally planned |
Guernsey's athletes will travel to Delhi on Monday as originally planned, the island's Commonwealth Games Association has announced. The news follows inspections of both the team's accommodation and the athletes' village. Chairman Peter Sirett said: "There were still problems with the cleanliness of the apartments and some health and safety issues." However, he was satisfied they would be resolved before the team's arrival. He said the decision was made by chef de mission, David Harry, and general team manager, Angela Stuart, who travelled out with the advance party on Wednesday. A manager has been appointed to the tower block containing the Guernsey apartments, who is supervising the staff attending to items on a snagging list prepared by the island team's managers. They found the training facilities in the athletes' village to be "extremely good" and the dining hall as "of high quality" and manned by helpful and friendly staff. They also found the security presence to be very obvious when travelling on the roads allocated for games transport as well as in the village. Sirett said: "Hopefully members of Team Guernsey can now concentrate their efforts on the events for which they have been preparing, in some case, for many years."
