Williams broke the Welsh record in his 400m hurdles race on Thursday |
Wales have withdrawn from the men's 4x400m relay because of an injury to their top runner Rhys Williams. Williams finished fourth in the 400m hurdles on Thursday but suffered a hamstring injury during the race.
"An examination confirmed a minor tear and he has been advised to withdraw from further competition," Wales team doctor Gareth John said.
Wales won the silver medal in the 400m relay at the Manchester Games and the bronze in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.
"We are very disappointed not to be entering a team," team manager Adrian Thomas said.
"We really feel for the boys who won't get a chance to go for a medal in an event where Team Wales has been so successful in the past."
