England's Imogen Cairns narrowly missed out on a medal in the women's all-round gymnastics competition. The 18-year-old Devonian produced a strong all-round display, finishing just 0.05 points behind Australian Hollie Dykes who took the bronze.
Another Australian, Chloe Simms, won gold with Canada's Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs finishing with silver.
A philosophical Cairns said: "I did what I came to do. I put in a performance that I am happy with."
The teenager scored 14.150 on the floor rotation, the highest floor score of the evening, and admitted she is now focused on individual success.
"I put in a good performance, I'm just looking towards my individual events now," she said.
Sixteen-year-old Shavahn Church, who lives in Los Angeles, finished in fifth place.
"I'm really pleased," she said. "I started well but just lost my concentration a bit on the vault. Luckily I managed to recover.
"I've qualified for the individual uneven bars finals, which is a strong event for me. I took the highest score of the evening in the bars tonight, so I'm confident."
England's youngest competitor Becky Downie, from Nottingham, finished in a respectable eighth place.
In the men's event, England's Ross Brewer put in an exceptional routine on the parallel bars but finished outside the medals in sixth place.

"Our target was to be in the top six and I achieved that, so I should be happy, although I would have liked to have finished a bit higher," he confessed.
Australia's Joshua Jefferies walked off with the gold medal with Nathan Gafuik of Canada winning silver and Philippe Rizzo, another Australian, completing the podium places.
