Sexton has won 13 out of his 15 professional bouts |
Promoter Frank Warren believes Sam Sexton may push himself too hard when training for big fights. The Norwich heavyweight, 26, has yet to plan his next move after losing his Commonwealth title to Derek Chisora. Warren told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Sam's taking a bit of time out but he'll get himself back together and we'll get him back rolling. "Sam's a good fighter, it just seems to me he sometimes - I don't want to say runs out of gas - maybe overtrains." He added: "But it's something I'll discuss with his trainer and I think it can be put right." Sexton's only two career defeats have come at the hands of 26-year-old Chisora. | I'm not sure if he's taking the fight too soon against Klitschko, but the bottom line is he's got it now and he'll get on with it |
And as a result of his ninth-round victory over Sexton in September - his 14th win in 14 bouts - Chisora will face WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko next month in Germany. "Sam's come back from a defeat before and done it in good style, I'm sure he can do it again - and Derek's capitalised on it," Warren continued. "I'm not sure if he's taking the fight too soon against Klitschko but the bottom line is he's got it now and he'll get on with it. "If he wins the fight, then that's fantastic."
