Johnson beat Northern Ireland's Tommy McCarthy to win gold in Delhi |
Commonwealth light-heavyweight boxing champion Callum Johnson, from Benington near Boston, is to turn professional. The 25-year-old, who won a gold medal for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October, revealed his decision on Facebook. Johnson will be represented by renowned promoter Frank Warren. Boxing commentator John Rawling told BBC Lincolnshire: "If he can progress, it's a long road but there could be big opportunities for him in the future." He added: "Frank Warren is arguably the top promoter in Europe. He's got the right connections so if Callum has the talent he's with the right man to go all the way." It is thought Johnson could make his professional debut in December.
