Jeffries (r) believes Brooks is among the best trainers in the world |
Sunderland light-heavyweight Tony Jeffries will move to the United States to train after parting with Manchester-based Bobby Rimmer last month. Jeffries, 25, will work with Los Angeles-based Tommy Brooks, who has trained such names as Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko and Mike Tyson. "Tommy isn't just a coach, but also a teacher," said promoter Frank Maloney. "That is exactly what Tony needs to help him develop. He [Brooks] is one of the best trainers in the world." Jeffries, who turned professional with Maloney's stable in February 2009, has fought eight times but drew his last fight with Michael Banbula after a mix-up over the number of allotted rounds. | From our conversations it is clear he is willing to learn and there is plenty to work with |
Brooks continues to train former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, and is excited by the prospect of working with former Olympic bronze medallist Jeffries. "I am looking forward to working with Tony and I am sure that given time with each other we will form a good team and I can get the best out of him. "From our conversations it is clear he is willing to learn and there is plenty to work with."
