Hughes aims for Olympics Malmesbury boxer Joe Hughes hopes to claim his first Amateur Boxing Association title when he fights Liam Taylor for the light-welterweight belt. Hughes, who trains full-time thanks to sponsorship, is favourite to win Friday's bout. The 19-year-old has enjoyed 57 wins in 69 bouts and has won an impressive string of junior titles. Hughes told BBC Points West: "This is massive to me. If I win this, it could put me in the Commonwealth Games." He added: "It could put me in the GB squad and then hopefully a shot at the Olympics. "I've wanted to do this ever since I've been a kid and these championships are the biggest in domestic amateur boxing. "I think I'm fit enough and I can't see myself tiring over the three rounds. It's only nine minutes and I could be ABA champion. "I feel that I am good enough." The fight takes place at York Hall in Bethnal Green in east London.
