Hide was forced to cut short his chance of lifting the Prizefighter title |
Herbie Hide was forced to pull out of Prizefighter after sustaining a cut in his brutal quarter-final defeat of Wayne Brooks. In round two the pair suffered a clash of heads and despite fighting on to a comprehensive victory with a gash above his right eye, Hide chose to withdraw. "I'm number two in the world rankings now," Hide told Sky Sports. "If I went ahead with the cut and lost my next fight in the next round I might lose my ranking." Jon-Lewis Dickinson stopped Hide's replacement Nick Okoth in the final. Okoth produced a fine performance in the semi-final to upset Ireland's former Commonwealth champion Darren Corbett on points, but the Battersea journeyman came unstuck against 2007 ABA champion Dickinson in the final. Dickinson improved his fledgling professional record to 8-0 with a final-round stoppage of Okoth, who paid two further visits to the canvas after being decked by a crisp right hand in round one. The 23-year-old Newcastle fighter produced a punch-perfect display to dispatch Mark Krence in the first round of his semi-final. He began his evening with a thrilling split-decision win over Leon Williams.
