Gary Buckland steps up in class after 18 wins from 19 fights |
Newport's Gary Buckland will challenge Manchester's John Murray for the European and British lightweight titles in Widnes on Friday, 7 May. The bout was originally set to be in Altrincham Leisure Centre but the venue was unavailable so the switch has been made to the Kingsway Leisure Centre. Murray, 25, is unbeaten while Buckland, 23, has just one defeat in 19 fights. "If I win this the next step is a world title," British champion Murray told the Manchester Evening News. The Englishman will claim the Lonsdale Belt for three successful British title fights should he win, while the European belt is currently vacant. Murray is looking to add the vacant European crown to his British belt |
"By the time I get into the ring it will have been seven months, so I'm just eager to get back in there," said Murray, who has 16 stoppages amongst his 28 successive victories. "I can't wait to show people what they've been missing. "We will make sure no stone is unturned and I'm top of my game. "It is a really important fight for me. It's not only for the European title, but for the Lonsdale belt as well."
