Gary Buckland has just one loss, on points, in his 19-fight, five-year career

Welsh boxer Gary Buckland has earned a European lightweight title shot against the highly-rated unbeaten John Murray.

The 23-year-old from Newport will fight British champion Murray at Altrincham Leisure Centre on Friday, 7 May.

Murray, 25, has an unblemished 28-fight record while Buckland has lost just once in 19 professional fights.

Buckland, who beat Sam Rukundo in an eliminator in February, has been hailed by former world champion and promoter Ricky Hatton as a "potential champion."
