Lawton has won 27 of his 33 fights |
Stoke-on-Trent boxer Scott Lawton will take on Russian fighter Leva Kirkosyan for the vacant European super-featherweight title in February. Lawton, 33, tops the bill at Fenton Manor on 19 February as he attempts to take the belt in his hometown. Richard Poxon of Hatton Promotions told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's an absolutely fantastic opportunity for Scott. "This is a great chance for him to take a big leap and establish himself in Europe at his new weight." Lawton has earned his chance for a shot at the European title after a stunning comeback win against Derry Matthews at Fenton Manor in November. He has won 27 of his 33 fights, losing five and drawing one, but he has yet to win a European title. Poxon added: "A lot of people in boxing will tell you that a European title is more prestigious than a world title because there are lots of world champions at every weight but there's only one European champion at a weight." Russian fighter Kirkosyan is a former WBF world champion and European super-featherweight champion.
