Brook has world title ambitions |
British welterweight champion Kell Brook and super-featherweight Kevin Mitchell have been added to Amir Khan's undercard at Manchester's MEN Arena. Khan faces WBA light-welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik on 18 July. Unbeaten Brook, who last fought in January, will defend his British title against Michael Lomax. British and Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Mitchell will be fighting for the second time since recovering from a hand injury. Mitchell made an impressive return in May when he stopped Lanquaye Wilson in three rounds, having spent nearly a year out of the ring. | 606: DEBATE |
Victory for the Dagenham-based 24-year-old, who is unbeaten in 28 fights, could open the door to a potential title shot against WBO super-featherweight world champion Roman Martinez. Unbeaten Puerto Rican Martinez beat Mitchell's stablemate Nicky Cook in March. Sheffield's Brook was set to defend his British title in May against Young Mutley but withdrew because of injury. Brook, who has not lost in 19 fights, is also tipped for a world title shot in the next 12 months. The undercard also features former amateur stars James DeGale, Frankie Gavin and Billy Joe Saunders, while Matthew Hall fights Anthony Small for the British and Commonwealth light-middleweight belts. Also on the bill is British champion Matthew Macklin, who defends his middleweight title, while Enzo Maccarinelli and Denis Lebedev will battle it out for the vacant WBO Intercontinental Cruiserweight title.
