Murray weighed in half an ounce over the limit |
John Murray maintained his unbeaten record with a sixth-round stoppage over Scott Lawton, but was stripped of his title after failing to make the weight. Manchester's Murray failed to make the lightweight limit by just half an ounce but still decided to fight Lawton. He had Lawton in trouble in the first and dominated the next three rounds. After a one-sided fifth round the contest was stopped in the sixth. "I'd rather lose on the scales than in the ring," said Murray after the fight. "After the disaster on Friday, being just half an ounce over, I really wanted to come out and put on a good performance," added Murray, who now has a record of 27 wins, no defeats with 14 knockouts. | 606: DEBATE |
"I've had a lot of criticism but there's one place it counts and that's in the ring. "It was really unprofessional to come in half an ounce over weight and I wanted to make up for that. "I'm still undefeated and the world is my oyster. I know I've lost my British title but there's a lot of options out there for me. I'm gutted but I'm chuffed with the performance as well."
