John Murray put in a classy performance against Lee Meager to take the vacant British lightweight title in Wigan.

The 23-year-old from Manchester controlled the fight from the first bell, subjecting Meager to a relentless barrage of powerful punches.

Former champion Meager, 30, had cuts over both eyes as early as the third round, and referee Howard Foster stopped it in the fifth.

Jon Thaxton had vacated the title to challenge for the European version.
