Dilks is determined to make a name for himself at York Hall |
Liverpool light-heavyweight Carl Dilks is confident of causing an upset when he takes part in the Prizefighter series at London's York Hall on Friday. The relatively unknown 25-year-old will fight it out against some of the sport's more established names, on live television, for a 25,000 cash prize. "Tony Oakey and Steve Spartacus are in last chance saloon," Dilks told BBC Radio Merseyside. "I'm unheard of and this is going to spark my career alight."
Dilks, who is unbeaten in his nine fights since turning professional in June 2007, said he fully intends to grab his chance to shine on the big stage."It couldn't be a better springboard for me and I'm going to go out there and show everyone what I'm all about," he said. "I really think I'm going to go all the way and I'm not going in the competition thinking anything different. "I wouldn't enter the competition if I didn't think I was good enough to win it." To win the tournament Dilks will have to win three, three-round fights in one night. In order to take part he has moved up in weight from super-middleweight and said he feels the move will aid his performances. | I've trained for a title fight, We've been in the gym now for three months |
"I've trained for a title fight. We've been in the gym now for three months," said Dilks. "I'm banging hard, I'm fast and there's no problem in moving up in weight." Dilks is joined in the eight-man knock-out tournament by Liverpool-based fighter Courtney Fry.
