Fry (r) has endured a frustrating professional career
Liverpool-based light-heavyweight Courtney Fry has expressed his delight at being selected to appear in the next series of television show Prizefighter.
Fry will line up against seven other boxers to fight in a knockout style competition for a 25,000 cash prize.
"I'm going to grab this [opportunity] with both hands and really go for it," Fry told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"I'm in it to win it. Second place? That's not me, all these boxers who have dodged me, now's my opportunity."
The 33-year-old, who originally hails from Enfield, was a Commonwealth Games champion in 1998 and a Sydney Olympian in 2000.
Since turning professional in 2003, Fry has suffered a frustrating time, boxing a mere 13 times.
He admits his story is made for the reality television style show, after falling for a girl when boxing in Liverpool.
"Three kids and a mortgage later I'm still here and I'm still training. This is an opportunity which in the past has gone by me."
The show, which is run by Matchroom and screened on satellite television, sees the boxers face each other in fights consisting of three three-minute rounds.
From the off it has to be explosive action. As soon as the bell goes I'm out there, hopefully I can adapt to it and I'll be ready

To win the competition Fry will have to win three fights at York Hall in Bethnall Green on 20 February.
He says the nature of the competition should make for exciting fights.
"From the off it has to be explosive action. As soon as the bell goes I'm out there, hopefully I can adapt to it and I'll be ready."
Norwich's Sam Sexton won last September's Prizefighter event in Newcastle.
