Thaxton beat Spain's Juan Carlos Diaz Melero in October
Jon Thaxton will be pushed towards a world title by promoter Mick Hennessy if he wins his February defence of the European lightweight title.
The Norwich fighter faces French champion Anthony Mezaache at the Norfolk Showground on 28 February.
And Hennessy told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I know if I work that opportunity for him he'll 100% make the most of it.
"The hardest step's already been achieved, winning the European title puts him in the frame."
Thaxton won the title with a third-round knockout of Juan-Carlos Diaz Melero at the Showground in October and Hennessy believes that his punching power would stand up to the world's best.
"It was a magic moment, it was incredible, there's just an elite few fighters who can punch like that when everything's right.
"He's got a puncher's chance with anyone in the world, any of the top lightweights, if he hits them sweet on the chin he'll KO them, no question," he said.
Hennessy said it is not just Thaxton's boxing talent that puts him in the line for titles.
"He's a real gentleman, he's a pleasure to work with, he's just an absolute professional," he added.
"Every young fighter coming through needs to be pointed in the direction of Jon Thaxton because he's an inspiration to everyone."
