Liverpool Olympic bronze medallist David Price has signed a three-year professional contract with David Haye's Hayemaker promotions.

The 25-year-old, who fought as a super-heavyweight in Beijing, will be trained by Adam Booth in Cyprus.

"For the past few months I've been considering my options," Price told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I haven't been actively seeking a promoter but this deal came across last week and it was ideal."

Price, the former double ABA Champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist, is the latest member of Great Britain's Olympic boxing team to join the paid ranks, following James DeGale, Billy Joe Saunders, Frankie Gavin and Tony Jeffries.

Price says his decision to hand in his head guard and vest was not influenced by his friends' earlier defections.

"Boxing is a very individual sport," said Price. "We all have our own ambitions, goals and targets.

"Once you go to the Olympics you do think 'now I can turn professional'."

Price will make his professional debut in Liverpool on 28 March. But first he will prepare for the fight alongside Haye in Cyprus.

Price says Haye and Booth were instrumental in his decision to sign with Hayemaker.

"One of the problems I was having was considering who was going to train me because I think heavyweight boxing is a different game altogether.

"I was trying to work out who had trained with a heavyweight and been a success and it just fell on my doorstep when Adam phoned me. t's just worked out fantastic for me."
