Lawton targets British title bout

Stoke-on-Trent boxer Scott Lawton wants to fight John Murray for the British lightweight championship.

Lawton, 32, the current English champion, meets Johnny Greaves at Fenton Manor on Friday night.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I know John is good fighter, but I think I've got the tools to beat him.

"I've sparred quite a few rounds with him. He's a fighter and I'm a boxer so I think it would make for a good contest if we were to meet."

Lawton's fight with Greaves is on the undercard of fellow Stoke boxer Chris Edwards' bout with Wayne Bloy for the vacant Commonwealth flyweight title.

Lawton said that, although his title is not on the line, he will not be underestimating Greaves.

"He doesn't mind using his head and his elbows," said Lawton.

"I'll have to keep my guard up and make sure there's no slip-ups.

"I've prepared well and now I can't wait to get in there," he added.
