Lawton has won 24 of his 29 professional fights |
Stoke boxer Scott Lawton will challenge Walsall's Martin Gethin for the English lightweight title at the Nottingham Arena on Saturday. Lawton, 32, is looking to regain the title he gave up in order to fight Amir Khan in October 2007. He told BBC Radio Stoke: "Having never lost the title, I want it back and it's a good stepping-stone to getting a British title fight. "Gethin is in front of me, he's a fighter who I think will suit me." Lawton goes into the bout on the back of four-straight victories and said he has something to prove to those who have written him off.
"Now I'm 32, a few people have said I'm on the way down," said Lawton. "But me and my trainer think I'm stronger than I've ever been and I'm certainly a little cleverer than before."
