Pryce took his record to 22 wins in 28 fights |
Newbridge boxer Bradley Pryce defended his Commonwealth light middleweight title for the first time in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Saturday. The 25-year-old beat Tanzanian Hassan Matumla, who had never before been stopped, with a third-round stoppage.
Fellow Newbridge man Gavin Rees won a points decision against Martin Watson.
But unbeaten Rees missed out on the vacant Celtic lightweight title because he failed to make the 9st 9lb limit at Friday's weigh-in.
He said: "I was gutted when I came in overweight, but it was my fault.
"I was determined to make amends against Watson but it's such a shame that I'm not now Celtic champion."
Other Welsh winners on a packed bill in Cardiff included welterweight Tony Doherty, middleweight Nathan Cleverley and light welterweight Barrie Jones.
