Pryce retains Commonwealth title
Bradley Pryce
Pryce took his record to 22 wins in 28 fights
Newbridge boxer Bradley Pryce defended his Commonwealth light middleweight title for the first time in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

The 25-year-old beat Tanzanian Hassan Matumla, who had never before been stopped, with a third-round stoppage.

Fellow Newbridge man Gavin Rees won a points decision against Martin Watson.

But unbeaten Rees missed out on the vacant Celtic lightweight title because he failed to make the 9st 9lb limit at Friday's weigh-in.

He said: "I was gutted when I came in overweight, but it was my fault.

"I was determined to make amends against Watson but it's such a shame that I'm not now Celtic champion."

Other Welsh winners on a packed bill in Cardiff included welterweight Tony Doherty, middleweight Nathan Cleverley and light welterweight Barrie Jones.
