Calzaghe hails mature Pryce show
Bradley Pryce
Pryce has won 21 of his 27 professional fights
Trainer Enzo Calzaghe says Bradley Pryce's light middleweight win over Ossie Duran showed his true class.

The Newbridge man, 24, is renowned for thrilling tear-ups in his 27-fight career, where he has won 21 (13 KOs).

But in beating Duran to become Wales' first Commonwealth title holder since Nicky Piper, Pryce showed another side.

"Bradley thought he was a banger because a few KOs early in his career went to his head, but I knew how good a boxer he was," said Calzaghe.

"This kid has won four ABA titles, done it all in the amateurs, and is never out of condition.

"We've been working on his boxing and jabs and he set a nice pace.

I needed this badly and now there are options open to me

"He always fights with heart, but this time he fought with brains, he's on the way at last."

Pryce, known as 'Sweet Sugar', also feels his career has turned a corner with his latest win.

"I'd like to thank Enzo and [promoter] Frank Warren for sticking with me through the defeats, this just feels great, everything was spot on.

"I'm speechless and proud, I needed this badly and now there are options open to me.

"I'll take a bit of time off, but then it's back to the gym. It's going to be exciting for me from now on."
