Maccarinelli is renowned for his punching power |
Enzo Maccarinelli says he is ready to abandon his natural explosive style for a more measured approach against Fabian Dominguez in Cardiff on Saturday. Welshman Maccarinelli, 25, faces 36-year-old Argentine Dominguez in a WBO cruiserweight title eliminator.
He said: "This is the first time in my life I'm not going into a fight to knock a guy out.
"Dominguez is a tough nut and it would take a sledgehammer to do that, so I'm looking to break him down."
WBU champion Maccarinelli is renowned as one of the hardest punchers in the cruiserweight division.
He needed just three rounds to win his three fights last year.
But the Swansea fighter was taken the distance by Mark Hobson in a unanimous points decision on his last outing in March, and a similar slog is expected in Cardiff.
"If it takes 12 rounds again then I'm ready for it," added Maccarinelli.

Dominguez, 36, known as 'El Gordo', is an ex-WBC champion who has a record of 40-6-1 (21 KOs), his last defeat against Cengiz Koc in 2004.
The winner of Saturday's fight at the Millennium Stadium will go on to meet WBO title holder Johnny Nelson - if the Englishman recovers from injury.
Buenos Aires-man Dominguez, the current Argentine heavyweight champion, lost a 12-round decision to Nelson in Sheffield in 2001.
He also lost an eight-round points decision to current WBA heavyweight champion Nicolay Valuev in Berlin in 2004. He has never been stopped.
"I don't know much about Maccarinelli, but he's a young boxer with no great names on his record," said Dominguez.
"Of course, I respect him, but I think I'm at a time in my pro career that I can do everything better than ever. But to demonstrate this, I must win on Saturday."
Maccarinelli's bout will have second billing in Cardiff following Joe Calzaghe's withdrawal from the card with a hand injury.
The show is headlined by the Danny Williams v Matt Skelton rematch for the Commonwealth heavyweight title, while Amir Khan's eighth professional fight - against Scot Colin Bain - will also be on the bill.
Gary Lockett is set to meet Ryan Rhodes for the WBU middleweight crown and Bradley Pryce makes his first Commonwealth light middleweight defence.
Gavin Rees will face Scot Martin Watson in a non-title bout. They were meant to fight for the vacant Celtic lightweight crown, but Rees failed to make the weight on Friday.
French light welterweight Souleymane Mbaye will feature in a warm-up for a possible tilt at Ricky Hatton's old WBA title.
Tony Doherty will fight Ihir Filoanu in an international welterweight contest.
Ross Minter, Steve Foster Jr and Kevin Mitchell have also been added to the card, their opponents yet to be confirmed.
