Woods wants to grow his reputation in America

IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods could land a rematch with US boxing legend Roy Jones Jr in March.

The Sheffield boxer, 33, lost to Jones in 2002, but is well placed to get a shot at revenge as a major belt holder.

Other options include Glen Johnson, tough Argentine Hugo Hernan Garay and American George Khalid Jones, but Woods wants to settle his score with Jones.

"I'm very confident I'd beat him this time. He's a different fighter and I'm much better," Woods told BBC Sport.

"He still craves to be a champion and I have the belt. That's the fight I'd like first up.

"And I'd love to have it in Las Vegas because that's where you dream of fighting when you start boxing as a boy."

Woods has hugely ambitious plans for 2006 as he bids to become the undisputed kingpin of his division, and he expects to know his first opponent by the end of the month.

"If I could map out my year, I'd fight Jones in March, Johnson in the summer and then Antonio Tarver," he said.

"I want to show I'm the best in my division. And I want to make my mark in America because that's where boxing is run."

If a fight with Jones or Johnson can not be made immediately, Woods will make a voluntary defence against Garay or Khalid Jones in Sheffield.

And he is especially wary of Argentine Garay.

"He is a really tough fighter. He'd be as tough as Johnson, but is just not as big a name."
