Williams (r) pulled out of the fight with Skelton (l) |
Danny Williams will not be allowed a shot at the British heavyweight title for six months after his late withdrawal from the Matt Skelton bout. The British Boxing Board of Control accepted Williams' explanation that he was suffering from flu pre-fight.
But they fined Williams 2,000 for "unprofessional conduct" due to the timing of his withdrawal and because he had not contacted officials.
Williams has claimed he wanted another attempt at Skelton's title.
Promoter Frank Warren said Williams' "bottle had gone" after he pulled out of the clash with Skelton last July at only 24 hours' notice.
But Williams told BBC Sport: "That's the worst thing you can say to a boxer.
"I definitely want to get the fight on - I want to knock him out. How many times do I have to prove my heart?"
Williams has 14 days to appeal against the decision.
