Wayne McCullough returned to the ring in September 2004 |
Wayne McCullough has confirmed that he will challenge Mexico's WBC super bantamweight champion Oscar Larios in California on 10 February. McCullough is currently training in Los Angeles with renowned trainer Freddie Roach to prepare for what will be his eighth world title tilt.
"Larios has not fought any of the big names yet. I will probably be the biggest," McCullough told BBC Sport.
"Experience will be on my side because I have fought better fighters."
McCullough was at ringside in December when Larios retained his title with a comfortable victory over Australian Nadel Hussain.

''He didn't show me anything that I should be worried about. He made hard work of it against Hussain, who even managed to push him back.'' McCullough, known as the Pocket Rocket, held the WBC bantamweight title in the mid-1990s but has lost three world title fights in recent years.
Battling points defeats by Naseem Hamed and Erik Morales were followed by a heavy beating by Scotland's Scott Harrison last year.
But McCullough returned to the ring after 18 months in September and took just two rounds to beat American Mike Juarez.
He reckons that Larios, who will be defending his title for the ninth time, will think that he will be taking on a fighter who is well and truly finished.
''He will think I'm done, which is a good thing,'' said a determined McCullough. ''But he really doesn't know what he's in for.''
