Wayne McCullough's scheduled fight on Thursday 9 December in California has been cancelled because agreement could not be reached on an opponent.

It is understood McCullough's promoters were reluctant to meet TV demands for a top-drawer opponent at such an early stage in the Belfast boxer's comeback.

McCullough returned to the ring after 18 months in September, taking just two rounds to beat American Mike Juarez.

"It is a shame they could not come to an agreement," said McCullough.

"I felt I was really coming to a peak for this fight.

"Throughout my career I have had problems and this is just another one."

Now 34, McCullough is working under new trainer Freddie Roach and recently signed a contract with Goossen Tutor Promotions.
