Wayne McCullough won inside two rounds |
Former WBC bantamweight world champion Wayne McCullough took just two rounds to beat American Mike Juarez in his comeback bout in California. It was the 34-year-old Belfast boxer's first bout for 18 months and he hopes it is a first step towards another crack at a world title.
"It was good to get the fight out of the way, I was a bit anxious about it," said McCullough.
"I caught him with a right and then a left hook. He was out cold."
McCullough, who had not fought since losing to Scott Harrison in March 2003, said he wanted to be back in the ring before the end of the year.
"I would like to fight in December and again in February or March," he said. "I am keen to stay busy and step up to fight for a world championship. I want to stay active in terms of fights because I have not done that for a long time.
"I have proved I can hit hard and I am still hungry."
