Witter is looking for another world title shot |
Junior Witter's European light welterweight defence on 9 July will be broadcast live on terrestrial channel ITV, his promoter has announced. Last month, ITV showed Amir Khan's final amateur fight against Olympic rival Mario Kindelan after a 10-year break from boxing.
There has been speculation Britain's foremost promoter Frank Warren will soon return to ITV from Sky Sports.
His contract with the satellite channel runs out at the end of June.
"I am delighted that ITV are backing this show," said Witter's promoter Mick Hennessy.
Witter faces Ukrainian Andreas Kotelnik at the Nottingham Arena, with British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch fighting Matthew Barney on the same bill.
ITV pulled out of boxing following the bout between Nigel Benn and Gerald McClellan in February 1995 which left McClellan blind and brain damaged.
But 6.3m viewers watched Khan avenge his defeat in last year's Olympic lightweight final, the highest-rating programme on any channel that weekend.
It is understood Sky will not pull out of boxing altogether but will now cherry-pick big fights.
