Promoter Frank Warren revealed that the former World champion will feature in the main support bout to newly-crowned WBU super-featherweight champion Kevin Lear.

Belfast-born McCullough will have a non-title 10-round fight with an as yet un-named opponent as he earmarks the start of another World title challenge.

Warren then plans to set up a shot at the WBO title in December.

Current champion Juan Pablo Chacon is due to face Scotland's Scott Harrison in October with McCullough facing the winner.

''If Harrison wins, the fight will go ahead in Glasgow,'' said Warren.

''However, if Chacon successfully defends his title, then I would put it on in Ireland.''

McCullough's career was put on hold for over a year when he was refused a license to box by the British Boxing Board of Control following a brain scan.

But McCullough was cleared in the United States and made a winning return to the ring earlier this year having been licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The BBBC finally relented, but their decision to give the Belfast fighter the all-clear prompted the resignation of five BBBC doctors.

McCullough's new promoter, Frank Warren, said he would like to meet George Neill, the first doctor to quit over the issue.

''Nothing happened and it is annoying because it left many questions unanswered which was not ideal,'' said Warren.
