Olexiy sails to victory
Olexiy Lukashevich of Ukraine
Lukashevich on his way to the gold medal

Ukraine's Olexiy Lukashevich leapt to gold as poor conditions pegged back Europe's best long jumpers in Munich.

Lukashevich was one of only two athletes to break eight metres, his leap of 8.08m just edging out Croatia's Sinisa Ergotic who produced a best effort of eight metres exactly.

Spain's Yago Lamela took bronze, just one centimetre shy of Ergotic's jump.

British long jump record holder Chris Tomlinson had to settle for sixth, his first leap of 7.78m proving his best as the 20-year-old had trouble judging his run up.
