McKinna, McDonald and Brown were among a host of English winners |
Under-17 athletes from Norfolk brought two gold medals and a silver back from the home international meet in Glasgow. Representing England for the first time, Callum Brown took gold in the hammer with a throw of 62.83 metres. Sophie McKinna won gold with a championship record shot putt of 14.81m, then missed out on a better mark after slipping on her final throw. Laura McDonald managed 42.16m in the javelin, despite strong winds, marking her England debut with a silver medal. McKinna, from Great Yarmouth, will now begin working towards the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in August. It has been confirmed that highlights of the games will be screened on the BBC Red Button service, which will be updated twice daily at 08.00BST and 15.00BST. McDonald and Brown are both members of the City of Norwich Athletics Club.
