Greene's main 400m rival Matt Elias pulled up with an injury in the race |
David Greene says he is desperate for glory at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi having missed out four years ago. "It means everything to wear the red shirt of Wales," said the 400m hurdler after winning the 400m flat race at the Welsh Athletics Championship. "I had to pull out of the relay at the last minute [in Melbourne] so there are scores to settle this time." Greene won the 400m at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium after Matt Elias pulled up with an injury. Llanelli's Greene, 24, will not compete in Sunday's 400m hurdles in the meeting that also serves as a Commonwealth Games trial as he nurses himself through a busy period. Highlights - Greene third in Oslo "I'll have the European Team Championships [in Bergen next week] and the UK trials, then one or two races at most in July before the European [Championships in Barcelona, 27 July-1 August]," he said. "There'll be a lot of training and fine-tuning of my hurdling skills to keep me ticking over. "The European Championships are the biggest competition for me this year. "Bigger than the Commonwealth Games - although I plan on doing well in both."
