Buck finished second to American Jamaal Torrance on his return from injury in Glasgow |
North Yorkshire's 400m runner Richard Buck finished second at the Aviva International in Glasgow in his first run for eight months after injury. Buck, 23, recorded a time of 47.26 seconds and described his run as a "solid opener" after a long absence. "I can take that as something to build off," Buck told BBC Radio York. "It was a bit of a disappointing race on the whole for me because I felt I could have done better, but it is the first race of the season." Buck added: "I didn't have many nerves going in there, I was confident and I was excited to be back racing again. | It'll be the world trials in Sheffield where I'll be looking to really run well |
"Back in 2006 I had a really bad hamstring tear, but the (injury) last year was probably worse because I was capable of doing better," he added, alluding to a season's best run of 46.40 seconds recorded in May 2009. The Grimsby born runner recently returned from a month's training in South Africa, which he said had proved well timed to avoid the recent cold weather. "We left at just the right time because the weather turned a bit sour here. We'd have struggled to get outside on our track and done much work. It seems like it was well planned out but it was complete luck." Buck will now focus on indoor racing, first heading to the Birmingham Games next weekend (6 - 7 February) as part of his preparations for the World Indoor Trials at Sheffield the following week. "It'll be the world trials in Sheffield where I'll be looking to really run well," he added.
