City of York runner Richard Buck put on a convincing display in winning the 400m in 46.4 seconds at the McCain Loughborough International.

The Pickering athlete battled against a mixture of rain, wind and sun.

Buck's trainer Geoff Barraclough told BBC York: "It was the fastest time of the day, and a good time for the conditions of the day."

Buck, 22, also ran the final leg of the 4x400m relay at Loughborough, which the England team won.

The Pickering athlete, who won silver in the 4x400m relay at the European Indoor Championships at Turin in March, has since recovered from a slight knee injury.

Buck is now preparing for a European meeting in Geneva on 6 June, closely followed by the new Super Eight meeting on 10 June.

"Everything will happen in two hours," said Barraclough. "In just two hours they get through all the events. It's a bit like Twenty20 cricket."
