Buck finished fifth in the individual 400m in Turin |
City of York athlete Richard Buck wants to use his first major medal success as a springboard for more glory as he prepares for the outdoor season. The 22-year-old won silver in the men's 4x400m relay at the European Indoor Championships in Turin. Buck told BBC Radio York: "I felt like I had a bit of a disappointing individual so it just made me want the relay even more. "We knew it was there to be won but it was incredibly close." He added: "We knew it was there to be taken if we could get it right on the day and we did. "The tactic was to front load the race so we had our fastest athletes first, the idea being we'd get a clear run out and we wouldn't have to try and navigate through some dangerous changeovers with the baton. "We always knew it would be a big ask for our last-leg runner to try to hold on to that but he did a fantastic job." Buck is now looking ahead to the rest of the year. "I'm looking forward to getting back into training hopefully pretty soon and seeing how it all comes together," he said. "I'm going down to Sheffield this weekend with my University but I'm not running because of a knee injury so my next competition that I'm scheduled to do is in Jamaica in about five or six weeks."
