Scotland will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Nigel Holl has been appointed the new chief executive of Scottish athletics.

The 41-year-old, currently director of netball with England Netball, will take up his role on 1 April.

Stirling-based Holl, who takes over from Geoff Wightman, is also expected to resign as a board director with Commonwealth Games England.

He said: "I look forward to maximising the opportunities offered by a home Olympics and the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow."

Holl was involved in the set-up and establishment of the Scottish Institute of Sport and believes he is taking on the role at an exciting time for athletics in Scotland.

Scottishathletics chairman Frank Dick added: "I am delighted that Nigel will lead the Scottishathletics executive team as we raise our rhythm of operations to address necessary change in this period of wonderful opportunity for Scottish athletics."
