Former Canadian decathlete Laurier Primeau is to take over as the head coach of scottishathletics. Primeau, 37, is currently the Canadian national team coach and also coaches at the University of British Columbia. He will take up his post on 1 November, having been introduced to the 400 coaches at the International Festival of Athletics Coaching in Glasgow. "I'm excited to be working with the athletes who are the future of athletics in Scotland," said Primeau. Primeau's first 12 months in post will see him through to the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010, the London Olympics in 2012 and the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. "There is a great tradition for the sport in Scotland but also a fantastic opportunity for the future of track and field here," said Primeau. "Coaches such as Frank Dick and Tommy Boyle are famous the world over for producing incredible talent and athletes like Allan Wells and Liz McColgan have provided Scotland with a rich history."
