Merrien finished tenth in the cross country race in Edinburgh

Guernsey's Lee Merrien was pleased with his run at the BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country Race at the weekend, despite freezing conditions.

Merrien finished 10th, six places behind the 10000m world record holder Kenenisa Bekele.

Merrien said although some athletes did not make the race due to the weather, competition was still strong.

He said there was "snow underfoot from beginning to end" but that race conditions "were quite pleasant".
